I'll start by saying I love this race!! It was my first ever triathlon, open water swim and bike crash 4 yrs ago! We have done it in some pretty mad weather conditions but its always amazing and the Ironman machine do a great job as making you feel on top of the world as you finish.
They had introduced the rolling start here for the first time and it makes a huge difference to the amount of biff. I
Whilst its a hilly bike course there are lots of sections on the bars and if you're brave enough the descents too. Good to see Greg Gregory Ashley and Tony Johnson out on the course. I had wanted to go sub 4 hrs but missed that by about 5 mins so a good target for next yr but 10 mins faster than last yr.
Off on the run my hip flexors were super tight and I struggled on the first climb so used a couple of the hills to lengthen my stride and stretch out my hip flexors. my cadence was pretty good and I stayed ahead and overtook of all the women who had come in around the same time. Again I had hoped to go sub 2 but a couple of loo stops put pay to that, very happy with a time of 2.06 and a pb on this course by 12 mins.
Brilliant brilliant day, would recommend this race to everyone and yes I'll be back next yr.
