Didn't arrive with much time to spare, parked up and started to get my gear out and noticed no one had a bike...... It was the car park for the park run, with no more signs i asked someone who said you need to go 500m further on, jumped back in the car and by luck as still no signs but i found it.
Now it's 8.50 and transition closed 5 mins ago, I explained at the reg desk about poor signs and they let me in but had ran out of T shirts.
Hooter went and I started running but my legs were shot after 500m. I normally taper before a race and I did mean to take it steady on at the spin class on Wed but I clearly did nt and was now paying the price. It knew it was going to be "a hang in there day"
Managed a bang on 25 min 5k and headed out onto the bike on my new Cannondale cx. The route had all the off road experiences you would expect, tree roots, narrow paths, steep decents and 3 big inclines that my bike did nt have the gears to spin up so had to get up them by running and/or carrying the bike, with 2 laps to do that was twice the pain...not nice.
Got lapped by 3 GBR guys that were flying but got to the second run without a tumble despite a few close encounters with trees, logs and some pretty deep muddy section at the bottom of the slopes.
Got a shout of encouragement from Jules as I grinder out up the grass slope to T2, I needed that.
The second run of 3k was probably the hardest I have ever had to dig but managed to beat 15 mins.
Overall time 1.47 ...btw the winner was not much over an hour..... amazing
Loved the event, so much fun on the bike and i feel like I have had a good workout as i ache sooooooo much this morning.
